Maybe I need to convince the missus to let me buy a new server. My thought is to run 2 copies of 2012 using VMWare vSphere 5.5. Looks like I can max the RAM to 32GB and add (4) 2.5 300GB SAS 15K drives for a decent price. The system has 2 Quad Core E5450 CPUs, PERC 6i and 2 onboard Intel NICs. I might try running vmware ESXi (instead of FreeBSD as host OS) but it looks like only a really old version (4.x.x stuff) is compatible. We are running fully ESX4 on 2950, so I cant send you screens for esxi. I have been given a PowerEdge 1950 iii from another department and considering fixing it up to run Server 2012. I'll keep tinkering with settings, and will start into finding log files to read (assuming there are some), but was wondering if someone can tell me if my issue is simply due to me using this older hardware, or is there some key configuration I need to do?
